Season’s Greetings!

Season’s Greetings to everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying the holidays. We had a 4-day break. Some of the guys traveled home to spend Christmas with their families. I ended up just staying here in Providence for my break.

Marty Karsums and I went to the movie Valkyrie on Christmas day and I really liked it. As you might find, my movie reports can be misleading because there are very few movies that I don’t like.

I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!

Dancing with the Devils

Hey guys,

After a solid weekend last weekend, we didn’t start this one the way we wanted to with a loss in Hartford Wednesday night. We’ve been playing very well at home lately but Lowell has had our number so hopefully we can change that tonight.

Sadly, the ping pong table is no more. I’m not sure what the circumstances were but it is currently in two pieces so play has been suspended until we can figure something out.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen the new Bond movie, I highly recommend checking that out. I saw it last week and really liked it.

Enjoy the games this weekend!

Talk to you soon, Byron

Skate with the Bruins

Hey guys, well it was nice to play back at The Dunk again this weekend.  Unfortunatly we didn’t get the result that we wanted.  We had a great come from behind win in Albany after pouring almost 60 shots on net.  Last night was the Skate with the Bruins and it was great to see a lot of you at the rink.  In ping pong news, Jordan Knackstedt has been a mainstay at the table attempting to improve his skills.  However, he still hasn’t unseated Adam McQuaid as the champ.  Again, great to meet many of you last night! “Slapshot”

Hey Everyone,

We got off to a good start to the year picking up 9 out of a possible 10 points in our first 5 games.  It’s great to be playing again.  A big congratulations to Johnny Boychuk being named the Player of the Week.  Wacey gave him the name “Slapshot” which is pretty fitting.  The ping pong league has started and Adam McQuaid is defending his title but there is some stiff competition coming from Jordan Knackstedt, Tuukka Rask and our trainer Tom.  We are off on the road for the next few games so we’ll see you all back at The Dunk soon!

Bitzy’s Mailbag!

Posted in Mailbag with tags , , , , , on October 6, 2008 by bitzy29

Hey everyone! I’ve been getting a lot of questions from you guys lately so I thought it’d be fun to answer the first few in a mailbag. Keep on sending your comments in!

I read you’re from Saskatchewan in Canada, are you French? It’s cold in Canada right? You rock, I train my slap shot every day against my garage door. I wanna be a Bruin someday! – Gerald

It is cold in Canada. Saskatoon (where I am from) isn’t nearly as cold as places further north. For instance, the climate in a place like Wakaw, Saskatchewan is much colder. Though I am not French, I really wish I spoke the language.  Keep working hard!

Did you use farming as a key tool in your workout plan? Like lifting hay bails and focusing when you’re driving the combine? – Jim

Farming has been a big part of my life. Manual labor such as lifting hay bails or pulling a truck out of the mud definitely serves as good training for hockey. Thanks for the message. Hopefully see you at a Bruins game!

Greetings Byron, big Bruins fan here. What do you think about Jordan Knackstedt? He seems to be putting up some points. Any thoughts on his chance of making the team? Thanks so much, great job on the blog! – Steve

Jordan is a hard working kid. He came up with us at the end of last year and played very well. He’s working very hard to earn a spot on the team.

Do you feel your summer hockey training and conditioning with the Saskatoon Pirates helped you prepare to play the highest level of hockey? – Anonymous

Playing with the famous Pirates organization for the last three summers has been a huge part of my success. Many current players are in the NHL or pursuing other noble careers. Basically, I just feel a lot of pride knowing that I have put the Pirates jersey on and have had the privilege of being on this illustrious team!

Thanks for the questions. Talk to you all again soon! Come out for the home opener on Wednesday night at The Dunk!

Back in Rhode Island

Hey everyone,

I just got back down to Providence.  I’m very excited to get things going here tomorrow and get ready for the pre-season games coming up.  Camp up in Boston was a great experience.  We started off with fitness testing followed by two days of on-ice practices.  We then departed for Halifax for 4 pre-season games.  I ended up playing against the Canadiens and the Red Wings twice.  I’m sure you all can imagine how exciting it was to play at Joe Louis Arena.  All in all it was a good camp and I’m very happy about the experience.  Talk to you all soon.

The offseason

Hey everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are ready for another season of P-Bruins Hockey!! I thought I’d put up another quick post after my introductory one earlier. I spent the last four months at home in Saskatchewan. I didn’t really do anything too exciting. Just spent some time at the lake and even got in a few rounds of golf. I’m really excited about the upcoming season and look forward to seeing all of you at the rink soon.

My name is Byron and I’m a professional hockey player in the Boston Bruins organization. After graduating from Cornell University in 2007, where I was captain of the Big Red, I enjoyed a fun rookie season in Providence, Rhode Island. Now I’m here to let you get to know more about me, my teammates and anything else you may be wondering. Send me your questions! I look forward to talking to all of you!
